I’ve always had vivid dreams. But during my time in college, my dreams took on a life of their own.
In our waking lives, we’re able to recall memories and pinpoint our location geographically. If you’re in your home, you can recall where you are in relation to the nearest shopping mall and probably recall the last time you went there to buy a new pair of shoes.
This began to happen in my dreams. I would go to bed and not only have a dream, but experience previous dreams as though they were waking memories. I’d also be able to orient myself within the dream, plotting where I was geographically in relation to dreams I’d had years ago. (Cue the music from Inception.)
Maybe there’s science to this, but probably not. Either way, my experience dreaming has led me to believe it’s possible to map the subconscious, as though it’s a separate but tangible reality that exists alongside our waking lives.
