bravery and stupidity

Once upon a time, I was at a wedding. As the reception started, one of the guys at my table got up and made his way to the dance floor. He didn’t have a date, but that didn’t stop him from dancing by himself the entire night.

He danced to every song–fast, slow, and in between. He’d rock himself back and forth on his feet to Whitney Houston’s “I’ll Always Love You,” then twist and shout to “Twist and Shout.” Don’t get me wrong, he looked like a fool, but he wasn’t the least bit afraid to seem foolish.

This guy dancing with himself is of the most impressive things, one of the bravest acts, I’ve ever seen in my entire life. All these years later, I still remember his name.

There’s a fine line between bravery and stupidity, so fine in fact, that sometimes they’re the same thing.

So go ahead, dance like an idiot…
